Barcelona’s hopes fade as Haaland nears a more profitable agreement with Manchester City
Barcelona’s ambitions to sign Erling Haaland as the future replacement for Robert Lewandowski have taken a blow.
Reports indicate that Haaland, the Manchester City forward, is on the brink of agreeing to a new contract with the club. The proposed deal, set to last four and a half years, would not only boost Haaland’s wages but also raise his release clause from €150 million to €200 million, according to Sport.
Haaland has long been a target for Barcelona president Joan Laporta, who had hoped the club’s improving financial situation would allow them to pursue the striker in the future.
However, this new contract would complicate an already difficult transfer for Barcelona.
The Norwegian has been in exceptional form since joining Manchester City, quickly becoming one of the most lethal strikers in the world. His impact has helped City dominate both domestically and in Europe, making him an essential part of the team.
While Barcelona may still hold out hope of landing Haaland, they may have to turn their attention to other potential strikers as Lewandowski nears the end of his playing career and the club continues to face financial challenges.
