Bobrisky files a lawsuit against EFCC and National Assembly, demands ₦1.2 billion in damages

Prominent socialite Bobrisky has launched a staggering N1.2 billion lawsuit against the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) and the National Assembly, alleging violations of his fundamental rights.

This development follows lingering controversies sparked by activist Verydarkman, who shared an alleged audio clip in which Bobrisky purportedly admitted to paying EFCC officials N15 million to dismiss money laundering charges.

Bobrisky, previously convicted on April 12 for mishandling the naira, had been sentenced to six months in prison but was released on August 5. Speculation later emerged that he never served the prison term.

Subsequently, the National Assembly summoned both Bobrisky and Verydarkman to address these claims. On October 10, Bobrisky obtained a court order prohibiting the EFCC and the National Assembly from detaining, harassing, or declaring him wanted, which he shared in an Instagram post on Saturday.

In his lawsuit, Bobrisky alleged that the EFCC acted on unverified information stemming from a WhatsApp call shared by Verydarkman, resulting in public ridicule, privacy breaches, and threats to his safety. He is demanding N200 million from the EFCC for emotional trauma and an additional N1 billion from the National Assembly for denying him a fair hearing.

The socialite further accused the EFCC of unlawfully detaining him, including an incident where he was forcibly removed from an aircraft ready for takeoff. In his Instagram caption, Bobrisky criticized the EFCC and other Nigerian security agencies, accusing them of routine human rights violations and disregarding court orders. He called for international attention to their actions, asserting that their conduct exacerbated his health issues and subjected him to unjust treatment.
