Doris Simeon shares the emotional impact of her custody battle with her ex-husband
Nollywood actress Doris Simeon opened up about the difficulties she went through during a long custody battle with her ex-husband, Daniel Ademinokan.
In an emotional interview on Biola Bayo’s show, Talk to B, Simeon shared that the experience left her feeling “frustrated and depressed.” However, she kept her struggles hidden, relying on the strength her family taught her.
Simeon explained that her son was only 4 when Ademinokan took him to the United States, and since then, she hasn’t had the chance to fully play her role as a mother. She recalled that her last real opportunity to mother her son was when he was just 3. Since then, reaching out to him has often been challenging, with many attempts ending in silence.
She mentioned that Ademinokan would sometimes ignore her calls or quickly claim he was “busy,” making it hard for her to stay in contact.
Simeon acknowledged that both she and her ex had made mistakes, but the most painful part for her was being kept from her son. “He took my son without asking me first. He was only 4 when he left for the U.S., and I last mothered him at 3. I tried to keep in touch, but he wouldn’t answer my calls, or he’d say he was busy and would call me back, but then I wouldn’t hear from him for another 3 or 4 months.”
She admitted feeling both frustrated and depressed but chose to hide her feelings, remembering her family’s advice to stay strong no matter what life throws at you. She said she was once told at a movie premiere that she wasn’t allowed to see her son, which ultimately led to a court case.
