Peter Obi faces criticism from Mike Bamiloye’s son over his remarks on Church vigils
Joshua Bamiloye, the son of famous Nigerian evangelist Mike Bamiloye, has criticized Peter Obi for his recent remarks about church night vigils, calling them “misguided” and “insulting.”
During his appearance on the Honest Bunch Podcast, Obi suggested that Nigeria should become more productive by cutting back on night vigils, claiming they contribute to “breathing poverty.”
In response, Joshua took to social media to disagree with Obi, arguing that the focus on vigils is misplaced and distracts from more significant issues. He pointed out that vigils are usually held on Friday nights before the weekend and questioned why other social events like comedy shows and concerts aren’t blamed for low productivity as well.
He stated, “Are vigils really the reason Nigeria isn’t productive? Blaming church attendance for the country’s problems is a misguided mentality and, frankly, an insult. If we want to boost productivity, should we also ban fun events and gatherings altogether?”
Joshua also mentioned that the heat might be affecting people’s ability to think clearly about the real problems facing Nigeria. This discussion has ignited a debate on social media, with many Nigerians sharing their views on how church activities and other societal factors influence the country’s productivity.
