Honourable Alex Ikwechegh apologizes publicly after allegations of assault surface.

Honorable Alex Ikwechegh has publicly apologized after facing criticism for allegedly assaulting a cab driver who had come to deliver a package to his home.

Reports surfaced on Monday claiming that Ikwechegh, a member of the House of Representatives, had an altercation with the driver, which upset many people online. Calls for justice and accountability were made, pushing him to address the situation.

In response, Ikwechegh posted an apology, acknowledging that his actions were uncharacteristic of him. In his statement, he explained that a misunderstanding between him and the driver, Stephen Abuwatseya, escalated in a way he regrets. He emphasized that his behavior did not align with the values he strives to uphold as a representative and citizen.

He sincerely apologized to Abuwatseya and his family, recognizing the distress the incident caused. Acknowledging his accountability, Ikwechegh stated that he and the driver had reached a respectful resolution through alternative dispute methods, which he is committed to honoring.

Ikwechegh also extended apologies to the Inspector General of Police for any unintended disrespect toward his office and to his colleagues in the National Assembly for any harm caused to the institution’s reputation.

He concluded that this incident reminded him of the importance of restraint and self-control, especially in difficult situations. Ikwechegh expressed his commitment to learning from this experience to grow into a more compassionate leader and representative.
