“Veekee James Speaks Out: Navigating the AMVCA Outfit Controversy and Offering Advice to Fellow Designers”

Amid the ongoing controversy about Nana Akua’s AMVCA clothing, respected style icon Veekee James has weighed in to offer advice to her fellow industry professionals.

It’s important to remember the current issue surrounding Ghanaian fashion influencer Nana Akua Addo, who was accused by Nigerian designer Ezinne Olivia of not giving enough credit to her for creating her AMVCA ensemble. The designer in question then received a cease and desist letter from Nana Akua’s attorneys.

Veek_james wrote: I don’t know anything about the issue going round on social media so I can’t really speak on it!
Here’s my advise as someone who has been there done that👇🏼
1) Once anyone comes to you with the
‘Do you want money or tag’ phrase,
You better run!
I’ve had so many of your faves both in this country and abroad, use that phrase with me and that was it!
Today some of these people will give anything to be in my piece! No 🧢
It just shows no respect or regard for your brand!
Once you allow that, it confirms the fact that your brand has no values whatsoever!

2)Be Wise! Don’t let money come first before the important things! Sacrifice in business is a must! As long as you have made glaring the values of your brand, be ready to collaborate sometimes only with celebs who respect you as well!
Never forget that it’s a win win for you and the celeb!
No one is doing you a favour!

3)Don’t be desperate to be known through a person! You must know that only God is the LIFTER of Men!
He will use only the people He chooses to lift you!
Don’t try to do what only God can do for your brand!
Don’t expect publicity from every celebrity and make desperate decisions without thinking!

4)If you want to be a Fashion Designer, go and research the true meaning of bring a designer! So that you don’t end up being a tailor parading him or herself as a designer!
If you are a designer, do the work of a designer!
You are an artist! Create!
Don’t let clients tell you what to do and you just sit still with no creative input! These are values you must not take for granted!

Today, no man born of a woman can say that they made the Veekee James brand! No man can take God’s glory when it comes to my brand!
My growth has been evidently nothing short of God’s Grace!

I can go on and on but I’ll stop with this 👇🏼
The same celebrities who refuse to tag you, will pay the high end brands and tag them 10 times!
What can you make of that?
Everyone wants to be associated with greatness!

Start working on getting your values up, keep your gaze on the most high God and the rest will be history!

What works for vee might not work for you. Digest with wisdom ✍🏻

theglobaltemi: That no man will be able to say “they made me!” A mantra I will forever live by. God is my source, men and women are channels. Channels close and opens and God is always in charge. Now your worth, collaborate but on a mutual ground. Let God do only what he can do.

edens_glam : Same thing goes to makeup artists too!! Thank you for this 👏

taymieofchrist: The same celebrities who refuse to tag you will use their money to buy from high end brands and tag them 1 Million times thinking they’re doing you a favor by patronizing you and tagging you! God is the lifter of men🙌🏾

hairpopsng: People are naturally drawn to value. 😊 Initially, some customers didn’t tag my brand because our hair was considered ‘cheap.’ But once they saw big names tagging and wearing my Afros, they started tagging too. That’s what I call a flex. Always strive to excel in whatever you do. And remember, as long as a service is paid for, there’s no entitlement to a tag😊

cutegirlstailor: Imagine desperately tagging Gucci, Dior and the likes, these international brands does not need your tag to gain audience or customers, matter of fact they would not even notice you tagged them, neither will they repost those pictures of yours, but you sha want to tag them so people can know you are wearing so and so brand, the question is were you given a discount? Did you offer them a tag or money options, a big NO, so asking for a discount makes sense, but finding it hard to tag a brand that you paid shouldn’t be an issue sha, nobody wey no go make am o, be a part of that growth instead of regretting tmrw why you didn’t contribute to the growth and to them artisans be ready to sacrifice for the growth of your brand too, it’s a freaking amvca design, offering to give a discount should have been the best instead of requesting for a full payment. God will help us.
