To cut governance expenses, Tinubu restricts ministers to three vehicles in official convoys
President Bola Tinubu has set a limit on the number of official vehicles for federal government officials, allowing each minister and agency head to have a maximum of three vehicles in their convoy, with no extra vehicles allowed for travel. This cost-cutting move was announced in a statement by Tinubu’s Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga.
Earlier this year, Tinubu introduced similar measures, cutting down his own entourage on international trips from 50 to 20 and to 25 for domestic trips. The Vice President’s team was also reduced to five officials for foreign travel and 15 for domestic.
In today’s directive, Tinubu also capped the security detail for each minister and agency head at five personnel, made up of four police officers and one Department of State Services (DSS) officer, with no additional security allowed.
Furthermore, the President tasked the National Security Adviser with working alongside the Military, Paramilitary, and other Security Agencies to find ways to reduce vehicle use and security details across these sectors.
These changes are to be implemented immediately, emphasizing the importance and urgency of these cost-saving efforts.
