Opposition parties, including the NNPP, strategize to challenge Tinubu in the 2027 Presidential election
Ajuri Ahmed, the National Chairperson of the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP), has suggested that a coalition of major political parties might be formed to challenge President Bola Tinubu’s anticipated re-election bid in 2027.
Ahmed, speaking at the NNPP’s campaign event in Akure, Ondo State, ahead of the state’s November 16 governorship election, pointed out that efforts were underway to prevent the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), of which Tinubu is a member, from extending its grip on power beyond 2027. He urged opposition parties to stay vigilant and avoid being divided by APC tactics.
While he hinted at coalition talks, Ahmed did not reveal which political parties were involved. However, he reassured that even if the coalition plans fall through, the NNPP is fully capable of running independently.
“Our doors are open to forming a coalition for 2027, but if it doesn’t materialize, we can stand on our own,” he said.
Ahmed also expressed concern over potential election rigging by the APC in the upcoming Ondo governorship race, calling on NNPP supporters to not only vote but also to actively safeguard their ballots.
“There’s a fear that the ruling party may try to rig the election because they don’t want strong opposition,” Ahmed warned, stressing the importance of credible party agents to protect the votes at every stage.
Presenting the NNPP’s flag to their governorship candidate, Olugbenga Edema, Ahmed urged the opposition to guard against internal conflicts and maintain unity. He warned that failure to do so could allow the APC to turn Nigeria into a one-party state before the 2027 elections.
