Atiku responds as Fubara inaugurates 23 elected LGA chairmen

On Sunday, Rivers State Governor Sim Fubara officially swore in the 23 chairmen who won the Local Government Council elections held the previous day. The Rivers State Independence Electoral Commission (RSIEC) announced that the Action Peoples Party (APP) won all 23 local government chair positions in this election.

During the ceremony at the government house in Port Harcourt, Governor Fubara stated that any disputes regarding the elections are now resolved. He advised the newly appointed chairpersons to be cautious, as there might be threats of violence against them when they start their duties on Monday. He encouraged them to stay calm and strategic if they encounter any trouble.

Fubara revealed, “I know there are plans to gather 20 people in each area to confront you when you go back to your local government offices. If they come with hostility, avoid them. The peace of our state is too important. We all know what they intend to do, so I urge you to follow my advice.”

Meanwhile, former Vice President Atiku Abubakar praised Governor Fubara and the people of Rivers State for standing up against what he called political intimidation and manipulation, emphasizing their determination to elect local leaders.

In a post on his verified X account, Atiku expressed that the completion of the local government elections marked the end of political pressure and deceit, allowing for proper governance to begin in the state. He acknowledged the people’s united voice, stating that nothing could surpass democracy.

He remarked that the citizens of Rivers have proven to be wise and steadfast in rejecting political oppression. Atiku congratulated the newly elected local government leaders, urging them to prioritize the welfare of the people and avoid tyrannical ambitions.

He also commended the people of Rivers State for their resilience and for ensuring that the election was peaceful and fair. Atiku praised Governor Fubara for his dedication to the people’s interests and for maintaining the integrity of the elections despite challenges.

He stated that the true winner of the election is the people, whose right to choose their leaders has been upheld in a democratic process.
