Bobrisky Files N1bn Lawsuit Against VeryDarkMan Over AI-Generated Voice Recording
Nigerian social media influencer and cross-dresser Idris Okuneye, better known as Bobrisky, has filed a lawsuit against internet activist VeryDarkMan (VDM), asking for N1 billion in compensation.
This legal action was triggered after VDM shared a voice recording, claiming it was Bobrisky admitting to bribing officials from the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) with N15 million to drop a money laundering case against him. Bobrisky has denied these accusations, insisting that the voice in the recording was created using artificial intelligence (AI).
Bobrisky shared a legal letter on social media, suing VDM for N1 billion and demanding an apology, both in writing and via video, within 24 hours.
Meanwhile, the Nigerian House of Representatives has begun investigating the bribery allegations involving the EFCC and the Nigerian Correctional Service (NCS). VDM had accused the EFCC of dropping money laundering charges against Bobrisky after receiving the N15 million bribe. He also claimed that Bobrisky, after being convicted of defacing the Nigerian currency, did not serve his sentence in the correctional facility but stayed elsewhere.
Rep Patrick Umoh raised this issue in parliament, warning that these claims could further harm Nigeria’s reputation as a corrupt nation and that the matter should be taken seriously. The Speaker of the House, Tajudeen Abbas, has referred the issue to the Committees on Financial Crimes and Reformatory Institutions for further investigation.
