Barcelona’s Ter Stegen to Undergo Surgery After Knee Tendon Rupture
Barcelona’s goalkeeper, Marc-Andre ter Stegen, will have surgery on a torn knee tendon, and he might be out for the rest of the season. The 32-year-old German player was injured during a game against Villarreal, where he fell awkwardly and had to be taken off on a stretcher.
Barcelona announced that he has a complete tear of the patellar tendon in his right knee. They will provide an update after the surgery, which is scheduled for Monday afternoon.
Ter Stegen faced criticism for a mistake in a recent Champions League match against Monaco, and his injury occurred before halftime against Villarreal.
Barcelona’s coach, Hansi Flick, expressed concern about the severity of the injury, noting how it looked when Ter Stegen was on the ground. Inaki Pena replaced him in the game and is expected to take over his duties, but the club might consider signing another goalkeeper.
Flick declined to comment on any potential signings, focusing instead on Ter Stegen’s health and importance to the team, especially since he recently played two Nations League matches for Germany after Manuel Neuer retired from international play.
