Yamal’s Efforts Can’t Save Barcelona from Monaco Defeat With 10 Men
Barcelona’s Champions League journey started poorly with a 2-1 loss to Monaco at Stade Louis-II.
Manager Hansi Flick had to make changes to the lineup because Dani Olmo was injured, bringing in Eric Garcia. However, Garcia was sent off just 11 minutes into the game after a mistake by goalkeeper Marc-André ter Stegen, putting Barcelona in a tough spot.
Monaco quickly took advantage of the situation, with Maghnes Akliouche scoring a stunning solo goal to make it 1-0.
Even with only ten players, Barcelona fought back, and Lamine Yamal made history by becoming the second-youngest scorer in Champions League history.
In the second half, Barcelona struggled to defend properly, leading to their first defeat under Flick. George Ilenikhena took advantage of the weakened defense and scored again for Monaco, making it 2-1.
