Aisha Yesufu Says She Will Oppose Peter Obi as Vice President

Aisha Yesufu, an activist and founder of Citizens Hub, has announced that she will oppose Peter Obi if he decides to run as Vice President under another candidate in the 2027 presidential election.

In a video shared on Monday, Aisha questioned why Nigerians often expect the most qualified individuals to settle for second place. Her comment appears to be in response to reports that Peter Obi expressed openness to serving as Vice President if he found a candidate more capable than himself.

Earlier, Gistreel reported that Obi, who was the Labour Party’s presidential candidate in the 2023 election, had shown a willingness to work with other politicians for the 2027 election. During an interview with News Central, Obi said he was open to collaborating with political figures, such as Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso of the NNPP, but emphasized that the goal must be to improve people’s lives, not just to win elections.

Obi explained that he’s only interested in partnerships focused on reducing poverty and improving the country. He made it clear that he’s not desperate to become president but is eager to see Nigeria succeed. If someone else can do the job better, he would support them.

However, Obi later clarified via his official X account (formerly Twitter) that he never said he would run as Vice President in the 2027 election. He accused some people of twisting his words for propaganda purposes. Obi reaffirmed that his priority is addressing Nigeria’s current problems, like hunger, poverty, and insecurity, rather than focusing on the 2027 elections.
