President Bola Tinubu met with King Charles III at Buckingham Palace in London on Wednesday for a private discussion.
According to a statement by the President’s Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Mr. Bayo Onanuga, the meeting emphasized the strong relationship between Nigeria and the UK. It was the first time the two leaders met since their previous encounter at the COP 28 Climate Summit in Dubai last year.
The meeting was initiated by the King, and both leaders talked about important global and regional issues, particularly the pressing issue of climate change. They also looked at ways to work together in preparation for the upcoming COP 29 Summit in Azerbaijan and the Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting (CHOGM) in Samoa.
President Tinubu reaffirmed Nigeria’s dedication to fighting climate change while keeping the country’s energy security in mind. He also expressed Nigeria’s openness to adopting global sustainability strategies.
During the discussion, both leaders shared ideas on innovative ways to fund climate initiatives and expressed a desire to strengthen their partnership, leveraging Nigeria’s leadership role in Africa and the Commonwealth.
