Aisha Yesufu Accuses Abure and LP of Deception in N1000 Challenge
The Obi-Datti fundraising team has responded to claims from Julius Abure, the National Chairman of the Labour Party, who said that only Aisha Yesufu and Pastor Itua Ighodalo handled the campaign funds for Peter Obi during the 2023 election.
On Monday, Abure told reporters in Abuja after a National Executive Council meeting that he had not embezzled any campaign funds. He insisted he had no access to the money because he was not directly involved in managing the presidential campaign.
In response, Yesufu, who led the fundraising team, posted a video on her YouTube account on Tuesday calling Abure’s statement a “big fat lie.” She explained that Abure’s statement was outdated and misleading, recalling that in the past, records were not as meticulously kept. Yesufu stressed that she was very detailed and process-oriented.
She shared that there was an earlier Labour Party account which she had issues with because it was separate from the campaign funds they managed. Yesufu noted that they had no control over the funds in that account and could not use it for the campaign.
She criticized Abure’s 2024 comments as false, clarifying that there were three people, not two, responsible for the campaign finances. She also pointed out that the Labour Party has yet to account for the public donations or the money used to buy campaign forms.
