Lamine Yamal Scores as Barcelona Secures Late 2-1 Win Over Athletic Club
Barcelona secured a thrilling 2-1 victory over Athletic Club in their first home game of the La Liga season, giving Hansi Flick a winning debut.
The match at Estadi Olímpic Lluís Companys started slowly, with few chances for either side until Barcelona’s young talent, Lamine Yamal, scored the opening goal.
Yamal, playing against his friend’s team, curled in a beautiful shot, marking his first goal of the season and putting Barcelona in the lead.
However, Athletic Club equalized before halftime when Oihan Sancet calmly converted a penalty.
In the second half, Barcelona came out with more determination, with Robert Lewandowski leading the attack. The Polish striker was unlucky as his header hit the post, and he was twice denied by Athletic’s goalkeeper, Alex Padilla.
But just when it seemed Lewandowski might end the night without a goal, he scored the decisive winner in the final minutes of the game. This was his second match-winning goal in two weeks, following his crucial strike against Valencia.
The win keeps Barcelona’s perfect record intact as they prepare to face Rayo Vallecano next weekend.
