Wike Declares Commitment to PDP Amid Controversies

The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja, Nyesom Wike, has promised to stay in the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) despite the ongoing issues within the party.

During a media event on Wednesday, which marked his first year as a minister, Wike made it clear that he’s not one to back down from a challenge.

He stated, “I don’t shy away from any fight. I will stand and face it. Who would I be running from? The troublemakers? I won’t do that!”

Wike’s remarks come amidst rumors that he might leave the PDP due to internal conflicts, especially those aimed at him. However, he has repeatedly stressed that he remains committed to his beliefs, even if it means standing alone.

When asked if he might leave the PDP, Wike said, “Anyone who knows me knows that if I wanted to join the APC, I would do so openly. I’ve never hidden my position, and I won’t start now. Integrity is very important.”

Wike highlighted his dedication to his principles, noting that the PDP won in Rivers State because he held firm. He concluded by saying, “People must know you stand for something,” dismissing his critics as being afraid of his influence.

This statement comes less than a day after Chief Edwin Clark, a former Federal Commissioner for Information, urged PDP National Chairman Iliya Damagun to expel Wike from the party. In an open letter, Clark accused Wike of using his connection with President Bola Tinubu to pressure Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara and the PDP.
