Kylian Mbappe Makes History with First Goal for Real Madrid
Kylian Mbappe made a memorable debut for Real Madrid in the UEFA Super Cup on Wednesday, scoring a goal to help his new team lead 2-0 against Atalanta.
The 25-year-old French star finally joined Real Madrid this summer after his contract with Paris Saint-Germain ended, following years of interest from the Spanish club.
After a quiet first half, Mbappe scored in the 68th minute, thanks to an assist from Jude Bellingham. Earlier, Fede Valverde had given Madrid the lead against Atalanta in Warsaw, as the team aimed for a record sixth Super Cup win.
Mbappe played centrally in Madrid’s attack, flanked by Vinicius Junior and Rodrygo Goes, with Bellingham supporting from midfield. He had a shot blocked in the first half but capitalized on Bellingham’s pass for his goal.
Madrid introduced Mbappe in June, but he missed the club’s pre-season tour of the U.S. He helped France reach the Euro 2024 semi-finals, though he was limited by a broken nose and only scored once in the tournament.
Mbappe was officially presented to over 80,000 fans at the Santiago Bernabeu on July 16 and took some time off before resuming training a week ago.
