Burna Boy’s Mother Addresses Wike’s Gift Controversy and Protest Backlash

Nigerians have been criticizing Burna Boy, whose real name is Damini Ogulu, for not supporting the ‘End Bad Governance’ protests. This criticism intensified after his recent meeting with FCT minister Nyesom Wike, which led some to believe he has too close a relationship with the government.

Previously, Wike had honored Burna Boy for winning the Grammy Award for Best Global Music Album. This recognition was a significant achievement for the Port Harcourt-born artist.

In response to the backlash, Burna Boy’s mother, Bose Ogulu, addressed the situation on Channels TV. She clarified that her son did not receive any monetary compensation from Wike’s honor.

Bose Ogulu explained that Burna Boy was not paid because he was being recognized for his achievements, not hired to perform. This distinction was important for clearing up any misunderstandings.

Additionally, Bose Ogulu mentioned that there were promises of land that were never fulfilled. This has contributed to the doubts and criticisms among Nigerians.

Despite the controversies, Bose Ogulu emphasized that the recognition was given purely due to Burna Boy’s Grammy win, and no financial exchange was involved in the honor.
