Veteran Singer Onyeka Onwenu Dies at 72

Nigerian music legend Onyeka Onwenu tragically passed away after performing at an event in Lagos. The incident occurred on Tuesday, July 30th, at Reddington Hospital in Lagos.

Onwenu had been attending a birthday party where she performed on stage. After finishing her performance and returning to her seat, she suddenly collapsed.

Despite being rushed to the hospital for immediate medical attention, she was pronounced dead upon arrival. The exact cause of her death has not yet been confirmed.

Onyeka Onwenu had a remarkable career that spanned over 40 years. She was known for her work as a singer, songwriter, actress, journalist, and politician.

Her career took off with the release of her first album in 1984. She gained widespread recognition for her hit songs, including “One Love,” “Iyogogo,” and “Ekwe.”

Onwenu’s contributions to the music industry have left a lasting legacy, and she will be remembered for her significant impact on Nigerian music and culture.
