Messi Reacts to Argentina’s Stunning Loss to Morocco in Olympics Opener
Lionel Messi has spoken out after Argentina’s controversial defeat to Morocco. Despite being one of the top teams with players like Julian Alvarez, Nicolas Otamendi, and Enzo Fernandez, Argentina was down 2-0 in Saint-Etienne due to Soufiane Rahimi’s two goals.
Giuliano Simeone scored for Argentina in the 68th minute, and it looked like Cristian Medina had equalized in the 106th minute.
The referee added 15 minutes of stoppage time, during which Medina scored again in the 16th minute of added time after a chaotic play.
The match faced more controversy as bottles and plastic cups were thrown from the stands, and some fans rushed onto the field.
The referee stopped the game, leading to its suspension without a final result. Later, it was decided that both teams would play an additional three minutes without any spectators present.
After two hours, the game resumed with both teams playing the final three minutes in an empty stadium. Medina’s goal was disallowed for offside after a VAR review, and Morocco won the match.
Lionel Messi, who won Gold with Argentina at the 2008 Beijing Olympics, expressed his frustration on Instagram. He used the word “Insolito,” meaning “Unbelievable,” along with a stunned emoji to show his disbelief at the situation.
