PDP Governors Warn Against Presidential Interference in Edo and Ondo Elections
The governors from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) met in Enugu and warned against any interference from the president in the upcoming governorship elections in Edo and Ondo states.
They criticized the performance of the All Progressives Congress (APC) government and praised their own governors for their developmental efforts.
Twelve out of thirteen PDP governors attended the meeting. They supported the troubled Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, and called for quicker negotiations on a new minimum wage.
Senator Bala Mohammed, the chairman of the PDP Governors’ Forum, emphasized that campaigns should be focused on issues, free of violence, and in line with the Electoral Act.
They urged the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to ensure fair and transparent elections and asked the president to avoid any political interference.
The governors expressed concern about the state of the economy under the APC government, contrasting it with what they described as the successful 16 years of PDP rule. They promised to return to power in 2027 to restore the nation’s prosperity.
They also highlighted the need for a fair minimum wage negotiation and supported labor’s demands for a salary increase, considering the government’s ability to pay. They asked for restraint during ongoing negotiations to avoid economic collapse.
The governors supported Governor Fubara in the ongoing crisis in Rivers State and called for a peaceful political solution.
They welcomed the Supreme Court’s decision on local government autonomy and promised to support it while ensuring trust between federal and local governments.
Finally, they praised the host governor, Dr. Peter Mbah, for his achievements and his efforts in keeping the party united in Enugu State and the South Eastern region.
The meeting was attended by several other governors, including those from Rivers, Oyo, Akwa-Ibom, Delta, Edo, Plateau, Taraba, Zamfara, Adamawa, Bayelsa, and Enugu.
