Makinde’s Arrival Draws Large Crowd During Olubadan Designate’s Seclusion
As the ceremony for installing the 43rd Olubadan of Ibadanland takes place, thousands of people are gathered at Mapo Hall waiting for Governor Seyi Makinde to officially present the staff of office to the new king.
The soon-to-be-crowned monarch is currently performing rituals while awaiting the arrival of Governor Makinde.
Earlier, crowds of Ibadan residents and others flocked to Mapo Hall, making it challenging for security agents to control many people.
The Olubadan designate entered the ceremony venue at exactly 9:45 PM, walking slowly into a room on the left side of Mapo Hall.
He had previously spent several days in seclusion to learn about royal duties and traditions.
Markets Closed
In honor of the new monarch, all main market gates in the city have been closed.
Alhaji Yekeen Abass, the Babaloja General of Oyo State, ordered the closure of markets in Ibadanland on Friday, July 12, from 7 AM to 2 PM.
The closed markets include Sango, Mokola, Bola Ige International Market, Dugbe, Eleyele, Bodija International Market, and many others.
Alhaji Abass explained that the market closures serve two purposes: to honor the new monarch and to ensure smooth traffic flow.
Attendance
As of the time of this report, those present at the venue include all members of the Olubadan in Council, Chief Adeniyi Akintola (SAN), Professor Temitope Alonge, former Chief Medical Director of University College Hospital, and Senator Olufemi Lanlehin, who represented Oyo South in the National Assembly.
