Rema’s ‘Calm Down’ Becomes the First African Hit to Reach 1 Billion Streams in the US
Nigerian singer Rema has made history with his song “Calm Down,” which is now the first African song to reach 1 billion on-demand streams in the United States.
Chart Data, an American music statistics company, reported that “Calm Down” has hit this impressive milestone.
They announced on the X platform that Rema’s “Calm Down” is the first Afrobeats song ever to get over 1 billion on-demand streams in the US.
Back in August 2023, the remix of “Calm Down” featuring Selena Gomez became the first African song to achieve 1 billion streams on Spotify.
Moreover, the original version of “Calm Down” was recognized by Guinness World Records as the first number-one song on the world’s first regional streaming chart, MENA.
