Toke Makinwa Faces Backlash Over Her Views on Tribal Marks
Media personality Toke Makinwa recently got into a heated argument online after she shared her thoughts on tribal marks.
On the social media platform X, Toke expressed her views after seeing a beautiful influencer with tribal marks, calling out the harshness of certain cultural traditions.
She criticized the practice of giving children tribal marks without their consent for identification purposes, labeling it as cruel. However, she also noted that parents in the past didn’t realize this.
Toke expressed her relief that this tradition is no longer practiced. She remembered her grandmother, who had tribal marks on her face and arms, and wondered how she coped with them when she was young.
Toke wrote: “Today I saw a beautiful beauty influencer with tribal marks and it made me think about the cruelty that culture brought upon us. Marking a child without his/her consent as a means of identification is Evil. I know our parents didn’t know any better, but damnnnn!!!!
“Thank God it’s abolished now. My grandma had tribal marks too, some on her face and her arms. I wonder what life was like when she was younger walking around with them, though I’m sure a lot of people around her had the same, but thank God it’s canceled now.”
