Mbappe, on his way to Madrid, reveals his unhappiness at PSG
Real Madrid’s new forward, Kylian Mbappe, shared that “things and people made me unhappy” during his time at Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) before he signed a five-year contract with the Spanish club. The 25-year-old French star will join the La Liga champions next season after seven years in Paris.
Last summer, while PSG was touring Japan and South Korea, the club’s management warned Mbappe that he could be banned from playing because he had informed them of his plans to leave this year.
Speaking to reporters before France’s friendly match against Luxembourg, Mbappe said, “I was told harsh things and treated poorly.” He clarified that while he wasn’t generally unhappy at PSG, certain circumstances and people there made him feel unhappy.
Mbappe concluded his time at PSG by winning the Ligue 1 title and the French Cup under coach Luis Enrique and advisor Luis Campos, who he had also worked with at Monaco. Despite his domestic achievements, he couldn’t secure a Champions League title for PSG, a key goal for the club’s Qatari owners and president Nasser al-Khelaifi.
“Luis Enrique and Luis Campos were the ones who supported me,” Mbappe stated. “Without them, I wouldn’t have played again.”
Real Madrid announced Mbappe’s signing two days before France’s match against Luxembourg in Metz, just before their Euro 2024 opener against Austria on June 17.
As captain of the French national team, Mbappe remarked, “I have a duty to the team, and I don’t want to distract from our goals. I’ll only address questions about the national team because we have a significant summer ahead,” the 2018 World Cup winner added.
