National Assembly Intervenes as Nationwide Strike Over Minimum Wage Begins

Further to the negotiation by the Tripartite Committee on National Minimum Wage (NMW) and Labour’s subsequent withdrawal from the negotiation, the leadership of the National Assembly intervened on Sunday, June 2, 2024.

Organized labour declared a nationwide strike on Monday, June 3, 2024, to drive home its demands for a higher minimum wage.

The intervention by the National Assembly aims to mediate the dispute and find a resolution to end the industrial action that has disrupted various sectors across the country.
