Patience Ozokwor explains why she turned down the nickname ‘Liz Benson of Enugu’
Experienced actress Patience Ozokwor recently opened up about the challenges she faced early in her career, particularly regarding the pressure to accept certain titles.
She shared that when she first started acting, there were attempts to compare her to the renowned actress Liz Benson. People began labeling her as the “Liz Benson of Enugu.”
However, Patience turned down this comparison. She believed that both she and Liz Benson were distinct individuals with their own unique qualities.
In addition to this, Patience revealed that she had also received offers to use her husband’s first name as her surname.
She chose to decline these offers as well, preferring instead to use her husband’s family name.
Patience Ozokwor made these revelations during an interview with Nwafo TV, shedding light on the personal decisions she made in her journey as an actress.
She said;
“I don’t know how it started, all I know was that when I started [my acting career] and people started recognising this woman from Enugu.
“So, there was a time I came to Lagos for a shoot and people started saying, ‘That’s her, this woman from Enugu.’ They said, ‘You’re the Liz Benson’ of Enugu.’
“I said, ‘No, with all due respect, I don’t want to be like Liz Benson, I want to be myself. I am Patience Ozokwor of Enugu’,” she recalled.
She added: “And some people came and said, ‘You don’t even need to answer Patience Ozokwor again. Answer your husband’s first name Edmund; Patience Edmund.’
