Aisha Yesufu explains why she didn’t stand while the new National Anthem was being recited
Popular activist Aisha Yesufu recently explained her stance on the new National Anthem. This followed a video showing her sitting during its recitation at an event.
In the video, Aisha can be seen sitting and refusing to stand while the new National Anthem was being recited. This sparked a conversation about her views on the anthem.
A journalist interviewed Aisha to get her opinion on the new anthem. She responded with her thoughts and clarified her position.
Aisha stated that, to her, there is no distinction between a new and old National Anthem. She only acknowledges the anthem ‘Arise O Compatriots.’
She expressed her belief that the focus should not be on such symbolic changes. Instead, she highlighted more critical issues facing the country.
Aisha criticized politicians for being preoccupied with minor issues. She pointed out that they should prioritize more pressing problems.
These pressing issues, according to Aisha, include the declining GDP, poor security, and the mass exit of companies from Nigeria.
In conclusion, Aisha reaffirmed her stance by stating that she does not recognize the ‘We Hail Thee’ anthem. For her, ‘Arise O Compatriots’ remains the only National Anthem.

As far as I’m concerned, there’s only one national anthem. I’m going to sit down if the ‘Nigeria, we hail thee’ anthem is played at any event
